OPEN MRI

Magnetic resonance imaging without claustrophobia

With its consistent focus on the requirements of musculoskeletal diagnostics, our open S-Scan MRI scanner, newly installed in December 2021, is ideally suited for all relevant examinations of the musculoskeletal system in the field of orthopedics and traumatology. The musculoskeletal anatomy can be completely visualized from the cervical spine to the feet. Our S-Scan MRI scanner utilizes the latest Esaote MRI technology.

BENEFITS OF THE EXAMINATION

in open MRI

Claustrophobia

Unlike a conventional MRI scanner with a "tunnel system," our "C"-shaped MRI scanner is open on three sides horizontally and one side vertically. The examination table, with the body region being examined, is swung into the magnetic field from the side. The patient can still see into the windowed examination room. For people with claustrophobia, this positioning technique is therefore significantly less oppressive than in a tunnel-like examination room.

AVAILABILITY

As an "in-office" device, our MRI scanner is integrated into the practice premises. This allows for timely examinations and discussion of findings from a single source, often directly during the consultation.

VERSATILITY

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) also visualizes the soft tissue structures of the musculoskeletal system, which are not visible in traditional skeletal X-ray imaging. It enables differentiated imaging diagnostics of the joints, tendons, muscles, and other soft tissues of the musculoskeletal system. Dynamic examinations, such as imaging a joint in motion, are also possible.

CHILDREN

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is ideally suited as an examination method for children. Unlike computed tomography (CT), it does not use harmful ionizing X-rays.
Furthermore, special software programs enable the shortest possible examination times with usable image results.

RADIATION EXPOSURE

Unlike X-rays and computed tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) does not use ionizing X-rays. This completely harmless examination uses a magnetic field and radio signals. Therefore, it can easily be repeated multiple times for monitoring disease progression.

AREAS

Our device can be used to examine the following body regions:

  • cervical spine

  • lumbar spine

  • Shoulder joint with rotator cuff

  • elbow joint

  • wrist and hand

  • upper arm and forearm

  • hip joint

  • Knee joint

  • ankle joint with Achilles tendon

  • tarsus, midfoot and forefoot

  • thigh and lower leg

"In addition to clinical examination, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the ideal imaging method for further orthopedic diagnostics. It allows us to visualize traumatic or degenerative changes in the musculoskeletal system, often during our consultation. This enables us to provide timely and targeted treatment for our patients."

LIMITATIONS and CONTRAINDICATIONS

People with bioelectrical implants cannot be examined due to the magnetic field used.

This includes, for example,

  • Pacemaker

  • defibrillators

  • Neurostimulators

  • Cochlear implants

  • Insulin pumps

Artificial heart valves are sometimes compatible with MRI scans. Please bring your corresponding heart valve identification card to the examination. Implanted vascular stents are generally safe. However, their implantation should ideally have taken place at least two months prior. Joint replacements, metal implants, and dental braces are not contraindications.

Notice:

Private health insurance companies cover the costs of an open MRI scan. Public health insurance companies do not generally cover the costs, but in individual cases – for example, in cases of claustrophobia – they may approve it. In this case, you should submit a cost estimate to your public health insurance provider beforehand.
